Rohit Sharma ruled out of ODIs and Tests against Kiwis
In a big blow to India, Rohit Sharma has been ruled of the remainder of the New Zealand tour. As per reports, Rohit would not be a part of the remaining tour, owing to a calf injury he suffered during the final T20I against New Zealand. He also didn't take the field in the second innings as KL Rahul was named the stand-in captain.
Yet to know the extent of injury: BCCI source
While the extent of the injury is not known yet, Rohit certainly looked in pain during the 5th T20I when physio Nitin Patel scrutinized him. "Right now, it's not looking good. The physio is assessing him. We will get to know how bad it is but he is not taking any further part in the series," a top BCCI source told PTI."
Mayank Agarwal might be Sharma's replacement
While there is no official replacement announced for Rohit, either Prithvi Shaw or Mayank Agarwal might be roped in. "He is out of the tour," a BCCI source told PTI on Monday. India will play three ODIs, starting Wednesday, followed by the 2-match Test series.
India's experienced campaigner will be missed
Rohit was phenomenal for the Men in Blue across formats in the year 2019. Besides his five sizzling hundreds in the World Cup 2019, he averaged a blistering 92.66 in Test cricket as an opener. His Test tally also included a double hundred against South Africa. He also scored 140 runs in 4 matches at 46.66 in the New Zealand T20I series.
Rohit had been in fine form across formats
The untimely injury will certainly dent Rohit's purple patch as he was in fine form in Test cricket following his promotion in the batting order. The upcoming Test series against Kiwis would have been his maiden assignment as a Test opener overseas. Rohit was also instrumental with the bat in India's victory against New Zealand in the final T20I before getting off the field.
