Rohit Sharma misses net session ahead of New Zealand clash
What's the story
Indian captain Rohit Sharma missed the net practice on Wednesday ahead of India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against New Zealand on March 02.
As per a report by The Times of India, while the rest of the squad participated in warm-ups like football and running at the ICC Academy, Rohit refrained from any strenuous activity.
Meanwhile, Rohit had suffered a hamstring injury during the game against Pakistan but had brushed aside any concerns during the post-match presentation.
Here's more.
Injury speculation
Rohit's limited participation raises concerns
According to the report, Rohit was seen jogging lightly under the close watch of Strength & Conditioning coach Soham Desai.
As mentioned, his movements seemed restricted, raising eyebrows over a possible injury.
The Times of India further reported that he didn't take part in any throwdowns and only shadow-batted while he also discussed strategies with head coach Gautam Gambhir and other coaching staff members.
Team preparation
Kohli and Shami gear up for NZ fixture
Unlike Rohit's short stint, Virat Kohli was seen spending a lot of time against spinners during the practice.
This was as bowling coach Morne Morkel rejoined the team after attending to a personal emergency back home.
Meanwhile, pacer Mohammed Shami also displayed his prowess by bowling at full pace and swinging the ball both ways, hitting Kohli on his pads twice during practice.
Coaching update
Morkel returns to Indian camp, Gill absent from practice
Morkel, who had to leave the Indian camp just before the team's Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on February 20, was spotted having a long chat with head coach Gambhir.
This happened as players were warming up at the ICC Academy.
Notably, Shubman Gill, who has been India's star batter in the tournament so far, was conspicuously missing from practice.
