Rohit Sharma becomes first batter to 5,500 runs for MI
Another day and another feat for Rohit Sharma as he has become the first player to complete 5,500 runs for Mumbai Indians. The swashbuckling opener reached the feat with his 30th run against Chennai Super Kings in Match 29 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, Rohit scored an unbeaten century (105* off 63 balls). He smoked 11 fours and five sixes.
5,500 runs in MI colors
He took 213 games to complete 5,500 runs (now 5,575) for the team. No other batter has even 4,000 runs for MI as Kieron Pollard trails Rohit with 3,915 runs. Meanwhile, Rohit's average and strike rate for MI are 30.13 and 131.84, respectively (100s: 2, 50s: 35). Rohit, who debuted for MI in 2011, smoked his second IPL hundred.

Rohit powered MI to five IPL titles
Notably, Rohit captained MI to as many as five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020). He was named their captain midway through the 2013 season. As per ESPNcricinfo, Rohit managed MI in 158 IPL matches. He claimed 87 wins and 67 losses, besides tying four matches. Hardik Pandya replaced him as the team skipper ahead of the 2024 season.
Rohit's efforts go in vain
