Rohit Sharma likely to continue as India's Test captain
What's the story
After India's recent ICC Champions Trophy triumph, Rohit Sharma is likely to retain the Test captaincy for the upcoming five-match series in England.
Despite a tough home summer and a disappointing tour of Australia, which saw him "stand down" from the final Test in Sydney, his leadership is now supported by both BCCI and its selection panel.

A source told The Indian Express, "He has shown what he can do. Every stakeholder feels that he is the right candidate to lead the Indian side for the tour of England."
Rohit himself has stated that he wants to continue playing red-ball cricket, further cementing his place as captain.
Notably, the England series will mark the start of India's campaign in the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Rohit dismisses retirement rumors post-Champions Trophy victory
In the wake of India's Champions Trophy victory, Rohit had dismissed rumors about his immediate retirement.
He had said, "Right now, I'm playing really well, and I'm enjoying everything I'm doing with this team."
When asked about the 2027 ODI World Cup that India will host, he had said: "I can't really say 2027 because it's too far but I'm keeping all my options open."
Resilience
Rohit remains optimistic despite recent batting slump
Rohit's recent form has been a cause of concern, with his highest score in three Tests during the Australia tour being a mere 10.
His last Test half-century came in October 2024 against New Zealand.
However, the Indian captain is hopeful of his return to form and said: "There is no guarantee that runs won't come five or two months down the line... I have confidence in myself that things can change."
