Rohit Sharma eyes multiple milestones in 2nd Test against Bangladesh
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is set to chase multiple milestones in the upcoming second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, starting on September 27. Despite his recent lackluster performance against the Tigers, where he scored only 11 runs across two innings, Sharma remains focused on improving his record. In his previous four Tests (five innings) against Bangladesh, he has managed just 44 runs at an average of 8.80.
Sharma set to surpass Gambhir's Test run tally
Sharma is on the verge of surpassing Gautam Gambhir's Test run tally in the upcoming match. Currently, he stands at 4,148 runs, just five short of Gambhir's career total of 4,152 runs. This potential achievement adds an extra layer of anticipation to the second Test against Bangladesh. Notably, Gambhir happens to be India's current head coach.
Sharma could overtake Sehwag's sixes tally
Sharma has a chance to surpass Virender Sehwag's record of most sixes by an Indian in Tests. During India's last Test series against England, Sharma overtook former India captain MS Dhoni to become India's second-highest six-hitter in Test cricket. He ended that series with 84 sixes, surpassing Dhoni's tally of 78 maximums. Rohit failed to hit a maximum in the Chennai game. Now, only Sehwag stands ahead of him with 90 sixes from 103 Tests.
Sharma could surpass Rahane and Vijay's century record
Sharma, who is currently the leading run-scorer for India in the World Test Championships, has a chance to surpass Ajinkya Rahane and Murali Vijay's Test century record. The three aformentioned batters are currently tied at 12 tons apiece. A century in the upcoming match against Bangladesh would push him past this Indian trio, further elevating his position in India's Test cricket history.
