Rohit Sharma becomes player with second-most sixes in ODI history
What's the story
Indian cricket team captain, Rohit Sharma, has scripted another record in international cricket. He now has the second-most sixes in ODI history.
The landmark achievement came during the 2nd ODI against England at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
Before the match, Rohit was tied with Chris Gayle at 331 sixes. However, he went past Gayle's record when he hit a six off Gus Atkinson during India's run-chase.
Record chase
Sharma trails only Shahid Afridi
Pakistan's Shahid Afridi currently has the most sixes in ODI cricket (351 maximums in 398 innings for Asia, Pakistan, and ICC).
Rohit, who is only behind the former Pakistan all-rounder, went past Universe Boss Chris Gayle. He also has a mind-boggling 1,013 fours in the format.
This just goes on to show how versatile and powerful a batsman Rohit is in ODI cricket.
T20I dominance
Most sixes in T20I cricket
Apart from his ODI achievements, Rohit also rules the six-hitting charts in T20I cricket. He smashed a whopping 205 sixes in just 151 innings before retiring. This further emphasizes his phenomenal batting prowess and ability to score big in the shorter format of the game.
Runs
Fourth-most ODI runs among Indians
Rohit, who gave India a solid start in Cuttack, added another feather to his cap.
He surpassed the legendary Rahul Dravid in terms of most ODI runs among Indian batters. The latter slammed 10,889 runs for India, Asia, and ICC in his illustrious career.
Rohit is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar (18,426), Virat Kohli (13,906), and Sourav Ganguly (11,363).
