IPL 2021: Rohit Sharma set to play his 200th innings
Punjab Kings will take on Mumbai Indians in the 17th game of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Friday. The reigning champions, Mumbai, are vying to make a comeback after losing to Delhi Capitals the other night. Meanwhile, MI skipper Rohit Sharma is set to play his 200th innings in the cash-rich league. Here is more on the same.
First player with 200 IPL innings
In the impending game, Rohit will bat for the 200th time in the IPL. He will become the first player in the IPL history to accomplish this milestone. Chennai Super Kings batsman Suresh Raina follows him on the tally with 192 innings. So far, Rohit remains one of the three players to have featured in 200 IPL games (also MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik).
Rohit could move up on the runs tally
Thus far, Rohit is the fifth-highest run-scorer in the IPL. He owns 5,368 runs from 204 games, and is behind Virat Kohli (5949*), Raina (6,021), Shikhar Dhawan (5428) and David Warner (5384). In the upcoming encounter, Rohit could surpass Warner and Dhawan.
Rohit can equal Gautam Gambhir (wins as captain)
Rohit is the most successful captain in the IPL (five titles). He has also won most IPL titles as a player (6). Under him, Mumbai have won 70 out of 120 games so far. In the impending game, he could emulate Gautam Gambhir's tally of 71 wins as a captain. Rohit will then be only behind Dhoni, who has 113 wins.
Rohit to complete 700 runs against Punjab
Rohit has an impressive record against Punjab Kings in the IPL. He has racked up 669 runs from 25 games at a strike-rate of 142.34. The tally also includes 29 sixes and 63 fours. The MI skipper requires 31 more to complete 700 runs against them. Meanwhile, Rohit will play his 160th game for MI. He has scored 4,198 runs for them at 31.56.
