US Open 2024: Bopanna-Ebden set to face Haase-Arends
The second-seeded pair of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden is set to face the unseeded Dutch duo of Robin Haase and Sander Arends. This two pairs will clash in the first round of the men's doubles at the 2024 US Open. The Indo-Australian pair previously clinched victory at this year's Australian Open but lost the semi-final at the French Open. They also suffered a second-round exit at Wimbledon.
Other Indian players to participate in US Open
In addition to Bopanna, two other Indian players, Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri, will be participating at the US Open. Balaji is set to team up with Argentina's Guido Andreozzi, while Bhambri will partner with France's Albano Olivetti. The first-round matches are scheduled to commence on August 28 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Bopanna, Ebden won 2024 Australian Open
Bopanna and Ebden started the 2024 season by ending as runners-up at the Adelaide International. However, the duo won the Australian Open thereafter. A quarter-final exit followed in Dubai before the two two faltered in R32 (Indian Wells). Bopanna and Ebden won the Miami Open title before losing in R16 (Monte-Carlo Masters). They also reached the semi-final at the French Open before crashing out of the Cincinnati Masters.
Bopanna to play on ATP Tour despite Indian tennis retirement
Bopanna announced his retirement from Indian tennis after bowing out of the Paris 2024 Olympics in the men's doubles first round alongside N Sriram Balaji. The Indian duo lost 7-5, 6-2 to French duo of Gael Monfils and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Bopanna represented India in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where he won the gold medal with Rutuja Bhosale (mixed doubles). He will continue to play on the ATP Tour.
