    What's the story

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is set to feature in the inaugural Delhi Premier League T20.

The announcement has added excitement to the event, which commences on August 17.

Pant will represent Purani Delhi 6 against South Delhi Superstarz. He would turn out for the opening match scheduled at Arun Jaitley Stadium on August 17.

As per reports, veteran pacer Ishant Sharma is also in Purani Delhi 6's roster.

    Availability

    Participation and future commitments

Pant's involvement in the Delhi Premier League T20 was subject to availability owing to a busy international schedule.

As per The Times of India, a source close to Pant revealed that he will feature in the tournament opener as the Indian batter is eager for this initiative, which is expected to provide a significant platform for young cricketers in Delhi.

The source further added that Pant values the role played by Delhi cricket in his career. However, it is crucial for him to maintain his fitness due to an upcoming long Test season.

Pant's primary focus is being in top form to represent the country. He would start preparing for the impending grueling red-ball season starting, with the Duleep Trophy scheduled in September.

    Comeback

Pant's return to cricket post accident

Pant made his comeback to professional cricket in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).

The deadly car crash, which happened in December 2022, forced him to miss several marquee events, including the ICC Cricket World Cup and the World Test Championship final.

While Pant bounced back in T20Is and ODIs, he is yet to feature in Test cricket since recovering.

A five-match Test series Down Under awaits the Indian batter.
