Every match is crucial for me, says Rishabh Pant
Indian cricket team's young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been the focus of everyone for a while now. The cricketer's natural instincts, promise and match-winning attributes have always been talked about. Yet, Pant hasn't quite converted the starts, especially in limited-overs cricket. The aggressive southpaw has stated that every match is crucial for him. Here's more.
Pant's pattern of displays a similar tone
In the ongoing ODI series against West Indies, Pant was out for just 20 in the second game. He had a big chance of making an impression after being promoted to number four. Yet, after a series of dot balls, his shot selection did him in. This has been quite the story for Pant for a while now that included the 2019 World Cup.
Pant wants to improve as a cricketer and a person
After the ODIs, India have a two-match Test series, followed by a crucial home battle against South Africa. "Every match is crucial for me and it is not about the next six months. Every day of my life is crucial and I want to improve both as a cricketer and as a person. That's what I am looking forward to," Pant said.
Important for Pant to be more patient and learn
Pant's only matured knock in recent times was an unbeaten 65 against WI in the third and final T20I. In other games, his habit of playing rash shots continued. It is a crucial learning curve for Pant, who has so many attributes to shine. He has to be more patient and hungry in order to build something substantial. Pant is eyeing improvement.
Pant keen to play normal, positive cricket
Pant is keen to improve and win games for India. He laid out his desires. "As an individual, I would like to have a big score but every time I go in, I am not focusing on that. I have been getting out after getting set, so I want to play normal, positive cricket that can help my team win matches," Pant added.
A look at Pant's limited-overs stats
Pant has been decent in Test cricket, but it's the limited-overs journey that's not quite hit the mark. In ODIs, Pant averages 25.44. In T20Is, he has an average of 21.57. Pant cannot afford to let chances go by so frequently.
