BCCI's Choudhary refuses to sign new GM's appointment letter
The ongoing rift between the BCCI and the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) continues to rule the roost. Days after BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary had criticised the CoA's decision to appoint Priya Gupta as the new general manager (marketing), he has now refused to sign her appointment letter. According to a report, Choudhary questioned Priya's experience in handling the job.
A lost battle for BCCI?
The situation surrounding BCCI, at the moment, is looking like a lost battle, despite Choudhary not signing Gupta's appointment's letter. The report states that the CoA will now forward the letter to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri or General Manager (cricket operations) Saba Karim to get it signed. The CoA looks adamant in bringing Priya on board despite the BCCI maintaining a hard stance.
Who is Priya Gupta?
Priya Gupta used to work with The Times of India. She was in the headlines in 2014 when she lashed out at Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone in an article, calling her a hypocrite. She is supposed to be paid Rs. 1.65 crore for this job.
Choudhary brings up the Deepika Padukone's angle
Amitabh Choudhary had earlier cited that even the Justice Lodha Committee never recommended the position of GM (marketing). In a fresh letter to Johri, Choudhary pointed fingers at the CoA for not doing a thorough background check on Gupta. He brought forward the 2014 article written by Gupta on Deepika. When Gupta was questioned on Choudhary and his objections, she chose not to speak.
