The Indian Premier League 2018 kicks off on April 7 in Mumbai with the hosts welcoming Chennai Super Kings. This is the 11th edition of the IPL and over the years one has witnessed a bag full of records broken, brilliant batting, bowling and fielding amidst all the glitz and fireworks. We analyse the records set leading to this season's cash-rich event.
Raina tops the billing for most runs
Chennai Super Kings batsman Suresh Raina carries the record for the most runs scored in the history of the IPL. Raina played for CSK in eight straight seasons, before captaining the Gujarat Lions for last two years. Back in Chennai, he would want to continue his scoring prowess. The southpaw has scored 4,540 runs in 161 matches with a strike-rate of 139.05.

IPL records: Top order batsmen sit pretty
RCB skipper Virat Kohli comes second on the list with 4,418 runs in 149 matches. MI captain Rohit Sharma is third with 4,207 runs in 159 games. Left-handed batsmen Gautam Gambhir and David Warner follow suit with 4,132 and 4,014 runs respectively.
Lasith Malinga has the most wickets
Veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga has the most wickets in the IPL. The Sri Lankan international did not find any takers this season, but has left a legacy behind with some extraordinary bowling. Malinga has 154 wickets to his name with a best of 5/13. In 110 matches, he has a good economy rate at 6.86 and played a commanding role for Mumbai Indians.
IPL records: Spinners rule the roost
Spinners fill up the next three positions on the wicket taking list. The former Indian team trio of Amit Mishra (134), Harbhajan Singh (127) and Piyush Chawla (126) fill the slots. CSK's West Indian stalwart Dwayne Bravo is on fifth place with 122 scalps.
