Formula One: Red Bull to switch from Renault to Honda
Formula One giants Red Bull have issued a statement citing they will partner with Honda for 2019 and 2020 seasons. This, in turn, will see them splitting with the current engine suppliers Renault. It brings an end to a 12-year association between Red Bull and Renault. Here is more on the decision by Red Bull.
'Exciting new phase for Red Bull'
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner stated that the multi-year agreement, with Japanese company Honda, signals the start of an exciting new phase. He added that the target for Red Bull isn't just Grand Prix wins, but also Championships. Honda will supply engines to both Red Bull teams which includes Toro Rosso. Is it a step in the right direction? Only time will tell.
A long association with Renault ends
From 2010 to 2013, the partnership between Red Bull and Renault helped Horner's team win four consecutive world title doubles. The relationship started to fray since 2014 after turbo hybrid engines came into force. Red Bull have slipped behind Mercedes and Ferrari and they feel a new voice is needed. Horner thanked Renault for the 12-year association and the winning experiences they have enjoyed.
