IPL 2021: Records which Suresh Raina can break this season
Chennai Super Kings have commenced their preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League edition. The Yellow Army, which failed to secure the playoffs berth last year, would be aiming to make a turnaround. Notably, the MS Dhoni-led side will have the services of Suresh Raina this time, who had opted out of the previous edition. Here are the records he can break this season.
A look at his IPL career (batting)
Over the years, Raina has emerged as one of the most versatile batsmen in the IPL. He has won plenty of matches single-handedly for the CSK, thereby earning the "Mr. IPL" tag. He is presently the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament, having scored 5,368 runs at an impressive average of 33.34. The left-handed batsman also owns one hundred and 38 fifties.
Raina set to play 200 IPL games
So far, Raina has featured in 193 IPL games, fourth-most in the tournament. He is only behind MS Dhoni (204), Rohit Sharma (200) and Dinesh Karthik (196) on the tally. In the impending season, Raina could become the fourth player to play 200 IPL games.
Raina could become the second batsman with 6,000 IPL runs
As stated, Raina (5,368) has second-most runs in the IPL at the moment after Virat Kohli (5,878). The former has 114 more runs than the next-best David Warner (5,254) on this list. Going by this order, Raina could be the second batsman after Kohli to register 6,000 runs in the IPL. He is 632 runs away from the historic landmark.
A look at other records that he can break
In the IPL, Raina has aggregated 4,527 runs for Chennai Super Kings (most for them). He could become the first batsman with 5,000 runs for the Yellow Army. Moreover, Raina (493) is also set to become the fourth batsman and third Indian with 500 fours in the IPL. In terms of sixes, he (194) needs six more to achieve the 200-mark.
