Weekend football fixtures: Here are all the records broken
Football weekends are the best, they provide fans with the perfect dosage of the sport for the week, and it is an added pleasure if your team wins. This weekend was fabulous, as we witnessed a number of exciting matches, and to top it off, the El Clasico was thunderous (not for Real Madrid fans). Here's the list of records broken this weekend.
Crystal Palace halt Arsenal's winning streak
Crystal Palace scored two penalties to draw 2-2 against Arsenal, thereby bringing the Gunner's 11-match winning streak to a screeching halt. Palace's first goal saw them ending their league goal drought at home after a long spell of 417 minutes. Arsenal are at the top in terms of penalties conceded (18) and penalty goals scored against a team (17) among EPL sides since 2016-17.
Liverpool thrash Cardiff City 4-1 at Anfield
The match saw the entire Cardiff City team complete 120 passes, while Liverpool's Wijnaldum alone completed 111. Salah has now played in 35 matches at Anfield, scoring 33 goals, across all competitions, in the process. Mane has tasted victory in all 19 matches where he's scored for Liverpool. Liverpool now have 26 points from 10 matches, equalling their best tally from the 2008-09 season.
Messi-less Barcelona rout Ronaldo-less Real Madrid 5-1 at Camp Nou
Real Madrid are seeing their worst start to a season in 19 years, and Barcelona added salt to their wounds, scoring five past Los Blancos. Barcelona now are unbeaten in their last 42 La Liga fixtures at home, their longest unbeaten streak since 1977 (67). Real are now without a victory in their last five league matches, their worst streak since 2009.
Manchester United finally win at Old Trafford, 2-1 against Everton
Over the years, Manchester United have been prolific against Everton, scoring a total of 100 EPL goals against them, their highest among Premier League opponents. Pogba has assisted 17 times and scored 14 goals since the 2016-17 season started. His involvement in 31 goals makes him top the list among all United players. Last night's match marked the 300th appearance of Smalling for United.
