IPL 2021: Records which KL Rahul can break this season
Indian opener KL Rahul hasn't fired in the ongoing T20I series against England so far. With skipper Virat Kohli placing his trust in him, he will likely have another go in the upcoming series finale. Post that, Rahul will be set to lead Punjab Kings in the impending edition of Indian Premier League. Here are the IPL records he can break this season.
A look at his IPL career (batting)
Rahul has been one of the most flamboyant batsmen in the cash-rich league. He claimed the Orange Cap in 2020 edition with 670 runs at 55.83. Having represented Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab, Rahul has racked up 2,647 runs from 81 games at an average of 44.86. He has also registered 2 tons and 21 half-centuries in the tournament.
Rahul set to cross the 3,000-run mark
At the moment, Rahul stands at number 22 on the list of all-time run-scorers in the IPL. The Punjab Kings skipper (2,647) can surpass Virender Sehwag (2,728), Yuvraj Singh (2,750), Parthiv Patel (2,848) and Brendon McCullum (2,880) to enter the top 20. Notably, Rahul is 353 runs away from becoming the 18th player with 3,000 runs in the tournament.
He can attain new milestones as captain
If Punjab reach the final and Rahul plays all the games, he could have the joint-second-most appearances as captain for them. At present, he (14) is behind Adam Gilchrist (34), George Bailey (30), Yuvraj Singh (29), R Aswhin (28), and at par with Glenn Maxwell in terms of appearances as captain. Under Rahul, Punjab have won six and lost eight games.
The records he can break for Punjab Kings
Rahul can also break plenty of other records for Punjab Kings in the forthcoming season. He needs to feature in eight more matches (42) to register 50 appearances for them. Moreover, he can become only the second player after Shaun Marsh to complete 2,000 IPL runs, playing for Punjab. Rahul (1,922) requires 555 runs to surpass top-placed Marsh (2,477) on the tally.
