IPL 2021: Records David Warner can break
Sunrisers Hyderabad has been one of the most balanced franchises in the Indian Premier League. They have always banked on their core, as seen ahead of the IPL 2021 Player Auction. The Orange Army, who reached the playoffs last season under David Warner, would aim for their second IPL title this time. Even Warner must be eyeing several milestones. Here, we present the same.
A look at his IPL career (batting)
Warner remains the most successful overseas players in the IPL in terms of batting. He is the third-highest run-scorer and highest among foreign players in the tournament. So far, he has racked up 5,254 runs from 142 matches at an amazing average of 42.71. Warner has slammed as many as four tons and 48 fifties in the cash-rich league.
Warner could become first overseas player with 6,000 IPL runs
At present, Warner is the only overseas player among the top five run-scorers. He could become the first-ever foreign batsman to complete 6,000 runs in the IPL. Although Warner (5,254) is 746 runs away from the landmark, he certainly carries the propensity to do so in a single season. Notably, he aggregated 848 runs in SRH's title-winning campaign (2016).
Warner can achieve this special feat
Interestingly, Warner has played the least number of matches (142) among players with over 5,000 runs (Virat Kohli: 192, Suresh Raina: 193, Rohit Sharma: 200, Shikhar Dhawan: 176). Hence, Warner could easily be the fastest to 6,000 IPL runs.
A look at other records he can break
Presently, Warner has most number of fifties (48) in the IPL. He could become the first player to register 50 IPL half-centuries. Moreover, Warner (195) is five maximums away from recording 200 sixes in the tournament. He is also eight appearances away from completing 150 IPL games. Only ABD, Kieron Pollard and Shane Watson have played more games than Warner among overseas players.
Warner set to complete 4,000 runs for SRH
Over the years, Warner has represented two IPL franchises; Delhi Capitals and SRH. However, he has risen to prominence, playing for the Orange Army. In the impending IPL season, Warner (3,819 runs*) will likely become the first player with 4,000 runs for the Hyderabad-based franchise. He (87) could also become the first to complete 100 appearances for the SRH.
