IPL 2017- A recap of amazing feats
The tenth edition of the Indian Premier League was much bigger and grander than the previous nine. With a fantastic display of cricket put on by all the eight teams, many records were made and broken. Let us have a look at some of the most interesting team records that left us entertained in the past seven weeks.
Mumbai Indians- The first team to win three IPL titles
The 2017 IPL champions, Mumbai Indians, became the first team to win the title for a record third time. They had previously won the title in 2013 and 2015. Mumbai went past Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, both of them have won the title twice. In the finals of 2017 IPL, Mumbai defeated Pune in a last ball thriller.
A century of wins for Mumbai
Apart from winning the title, Mumbai also became the first team to win 100 T20 matches since its inception. Mumbai have won 101 matches from the 177 played and have lost 73 games.
Most runs in the first six overs
Kolkata Knight Riders broke the record of the highest runs scored in powerplay in IPL. KKR's opening pair of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine scored 105 runs in the first six overs playing against RCB. The previous record was 100 runs, put on board by Chennai Super Kings in 2014. While Chennai lost three wickets on their way to 100, KKR lost none.
Highest opening stand in the IPL
KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn posted the highest opening stand in the IPL as they went on to score 184 runs against Gujarat Lions. It was also the highest target chased in T20 cricket, without losing a wicket.
Lowest IPL score posted by RCB
Last year's runner-up Royal Challengers Bangalore had a disastrous 2017 season. Not only they finished last on the points table, RCB posted the lowest score in the history of IPL. Batting against KKR, RCB was bowled out for 49 runs in 9.4 overs. They posted the score exactly four years after they had scored 263/5, the highest ever score in the IPL.
Mumbai defeat Delhi by the biggest margin
Mumbai Indians successfully defended their score of 212 runs to register a 146 run win over Delhi Daredevils. It was the biggest margin of victory in the history of IPL in terms of runs. Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma picked up three wickets each, as Delhi managed to score 66 runs, the third lowest score in the IPL.
Highest IPL score without a maximum?
Sunrisers Hyderabad went on to score 158 runs against Gujarat Lions to put on the highest IPL score without hitting a six. Rising Pune Supergiant had scored 153 runs last year against Kings XI Punjab without any player hitting a six.
