Ravichandran Ashwin attained these notable feats in Bangladesh Test series
Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin starred in India's 2-0 Test series win against Bangladesh at home. The all-rounder contributed with 11 wickets and 114 runs as India claimed their 18th consecutive Test series in home conditions. Ashwin was adjudged the Player of the Series, having displayed his all-round skills. He slammed a match-winning ton in Chennai. Here are the notable feats he attained.
Most PoS awards
Following the Kanpur match, Ashwin became only the second man to claim more than 10 player-of-the-series awards in Test cricket. With 11 such awards, he has equaled the legendary Muthiah Muralidaran. The veteran Sri Lanka spinner is the highest wicket-taker in the format. It is worth noting that Ashwin has fewer player-of-the-match awards (10) than series awards.
Most wickets in WTC 2023-25
In Kanpur, Ashwin added another feather to his cap in terms of ICC World Test Championship (WTC) wickets. He became the first-ever bowler to grab at least 50 wickets in each of the three WTC editions. Ashwin also became the highest wicket-taker in the 2023-25 WTC edition. He overtook Australia's Josh Hazlewood, who owns 51 scalps in this regard.
Most wickets in India-Bangladesh Tests
Apart from his WTC achievements, Ashwin also surpassed former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan's record for the most wickets in India-Bangladesh Tests. Zaheer, one of the best left-arm seamers, took 31 wickets from seven Tests against Bangladesh in his career. Meanwhile, Ashwin now owns 34 Test wickets in this regard. No other bowler has more than 30 wickets in India-Bangladesh Tests.
Second-most Test wickets in Asia
On Day 1 in Kanpur, Ashwin became the second-highest wicket-taker in Asia in Test cricket. He dismissed Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and went past Anil Kumble in terms of Test wickets in Asia. The veteran leg-spinner took 419 Test scalps in this regard in his illustrious career. Ashwin is only behind Sri Lanka's Muralidaran, who has 612 Test wickets in Asia.
Oldest player with century and fifer in a men's Test
In the series opener (Chennai), Ashwin, at 38, became the oldest man to record a century and five-wicket haul in a Test match. He smashed 113(133) in the first innings after India were down to 144/6. In the second innings, his 6/88 helped India bundle out Bangladesh for 234. Overall, this was the fourth time Ashwin recorded this double.
