England defeat Pakistan by 169 runs
England defeated Pakistan in the third ODI by 169 runs at Trent Bridge, Notthingham. Batting first, England posted the highest total in ODIs by scoring 444 runs for just three wickets in 50 overs. Alex Hales scored 171 runs in 166 balls. In reply, Pakistan could only score 275 runs in 42.4 overs. Chris Woakes took four wickets for England.
England post highest ODI total against Pakistan
England posted the highest ever ODI total against Pakistan at Trent Bridge, Nottingham during the third ODI match of the series. Alex Hales's 171 helped England put 444 runs for the loss of three wickets in 50 overs. The previous highest score in ODIs was posted by Sri Lanka against Netherlands in 2006, when they scored 443 runs in 50 overs.
Jos Buttler scores fastest 50 by an Englishman
Jos Buttler broke Paul Collingwood's previous record by scoring 50 runs in 22 balls. Collingwood had scored fifty in 24 balls against New Zealand in 2007. Buttler's 50 in 22 balls is the fastest in ODIs by any English cricket player.
Records broken by Pakistan too
Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir scored his 50 in just 22 balls, the second fastest by a Pakistani cricket player, after Shahid Afridi did so in 18 balls. Amir also became the first player to score a fifty; batting at number 11. Wahab Riaz gave away 110 runs in his 10 over spell, becoming the first Pakistani player to do so in ODIs.
England seal the five match ODI series
After winning the third ODI at Trent Bridge, England clinched another series victory against Pakistan. England lead the five match series 3-0. This is the fourth consecutive series win for England against Pakistan in ODIs.
Alex Hales puts up highest score for England
Alex Hales scored 171 in 166 balls, the highest individual score in an ODI by an English-batsman. He surpassed Robin Smith's 167 (not out). Hales scored 112 runs in boundaries, the most by any England batsman in an ODI innings. He smashed 22 fours and four sixes. Along with Joe Root, Hales put up a 248 run partnership, highest by any team against Pakistan.
