As an opener, Rohit has racked up 2,313 of his total runs. Interestingly, all his four T20I tons have been registered playing at the top. He also owns five unbeaten five unbeaten scores as an opener.

Rohit could form a formidable opening pair along with his South African counterpart Quinton de Kock. This presents the right-handed batsman Suryakumar Yadav an opportunity to grab the number 3 spot. Notably, Mumbai Indians already have a sturdy middle order in the form of Hardik and Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard. Hence, as per the team combination, the opening slot wholly belongs to Rohit.
