Ravindra Jadeja becomes leading wicket-taker in India-England ODIs: Key stats
What's the story
Ravindra Jadeja has once again entered the record books by becoming the highest wicket-taker in India-England ODIs.
The record-breaking moment happened in the 1st ODI against England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, on February 6.
Jadeja broke James Anderson's record of 40 wickets in 31 matches against India in his 27th ODI.
The former also completed 600 international wickets during the match.
Record-breaking performance
Jadeja scripts history with his second wicket
Before the match, Jadeja required two wickets to get past Anderson on this elite list. And he did so by getting Jacob Bethell out, who scored a brilliant half-century.
Jadeja earlier got rid of Joe Root for 19. His dismissal of Adil Rashid was his 42nd wicket in India versus England ODIs.
Jadeja was the pick of India's bowlers with figures worth 26/3 (9).
Record
His ODI numbers against England
Jadeja now has 42 wickets from 27 ODIs at an average of 23.28 against England. His tally includes two four-wicket hauls.
The Indian spinner has an economy rate of 4.69 against the Englishmen.
Meanwhile, Anderson took 40 wickets from 31 ODIs at an average of 33.52 against India. Like Jadeja, the former England former also recorded two four-fers.
Team dynamics
Jadeja's performance strengthens his position in team
Despite initial doubts over Jadeja's inclusion in the Playing XI, with Axar Patel already in the team, his exceptional performance has justified his selection.
As India gears up for the ICC Champions Trophy, there is speculation over who might make way for Varun Chakravarthy.
However, Jadeja's record-breaking feat has bolstered his position in the squad, by a long mile.
