Ravi Shastri receives first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Ahmedabad
The Indian cricket team's head coach Ravi Shastri on Tuesday received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at a city hospital in Ahmedabad. Shastri, who is 58, thanked the staff at the Apollo Hospital for their co-operation and support. The former Indian cricketer took to Twitter to thank the medical professionals and scientists for empowering India against the pandemic.

Indian cricket team is battling England in a Test series
However, it is not immediately known whether any other member of the Indian team's support staff was inoculated. The Indian cricket team is locked in a Test battle against England. The fourth and final Test of the rubber will start in Ahmedabad on Thursday. India is currently leading the series 2-1.
Phase two, day one: 1.46 lakh vaccinated, 29 lakh registered
India's inoculation drive entered its second phase on Monday in which the coverage was expanded to include everyone above 60 and those over 45 with co-morbidities. The number of registrations shot up to over 29 lakh, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan informed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the second phase of the drive as he got vaccinated in Delhi.
Besides PM Modi, these leaders got the first dose yesterday
Besides PM Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar got the first dose of the vaccine yesterday. The judges of the Supreme Court and their families will be inoculated from Tuesday. Dr. Harsh Vardhan will also get vaccinated today.
India had started it's vaccination drive on January 16
India, the second worst-affected nation in terms of the number of infections, had started its vaccination drive on January 16 with Covishield and COVAXIN. The first ones to receive the jabs were healthcare workers followed by frontline workers, who are at a greater risk of contracting the infection. Next in line were those aged above 60 and those above 45 having co-morbidities.
