Shastri could retain his job as Team India's head coach
As per the latest reports, Indian cricket team's current head coach Ravi Shastri could keep his job despite the BCCI inviting fresh applications for the post. Shastri and the current coaching staff will get an automatic entry in the recruitment process. It is being reported that players are happy with Shastri's style and the board might back him once again. Here is more.
Ravi has done everything right: BCCI official
Shastri has the backing of Virat Kohli. Further, some of the current team members are happy with he being at the helm. According to a report in NDTV, a BCCI official said, "Ravi has done everything right. They have become number one in Tests, they were number two in ODIs. One bad match doesn't make him bad. If he reapplies he will get preference."
CoA had extended Shastri's tenure by 45 days
Shastri's contract was set to end after CWC 19. However, the CoA decided to extend the coaching staff's tenure by 45 days. This is why Shastri will continue till the Windies tour. India play three T20Is and ODIs, before taking part in a two-match Test series. The T20Is start from August 3 onwards with the first two games being played in the USA.
Head coach will be selected by the Cricket Advisory Committee
The Indian cricket team's head coach will be selected by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). The likes of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy are part of the committee. Once the head coach is picked, the CAC will consult with the Indian selectors while recruiting the other coaches. Besides the head coach, six other position are up for grabs.
India's current support staff could also be retained
Under Shastri, India reached the semis of the ICC World Cup 2019. It is likely that the current support staff comprising of bowling coach Bharat Arun, batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar, will be considered if Shastri gets the nod. However, the team will need to find a new trainer and physio. The last date of application is July 30.
What's the eligibility criteria for India's coaching job?
According to the BCCI, the head coach should have coached a Test playing nation for a minimum of two years or three years with an associate member/A team/IPL side. The applicant should have also played 30 Tests or 50 ODIs, besides being less than 60 years of age. The other coaches need to have played at least 10 Tests or 25 ODIs.

The BCCI has listed the following jobs on its website: Head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach and administrative manager. Team India is looking for a new physio for the tour of WI, after Patrick Farhart announced his departure.
A look at Shastri's tenure as India coach
Shastri was appointed as India's head coach in 2017. The appointment was made after tenure of Anil Kumble ended prematurely under controversial circumstances. Under Shastri, India won the historical Test series in Australia. Virat Kohli's men also won the ODI and T20I series in South Africa. India bagged the Asia Cup in UAE and Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka as well.
