Prithvi Shaw scores double hundred in his First-Class comeback match
Indian opener Prithvi Shaw raised the bar again as he scored a double hundred, playing for Mumbai, against Baroda, in the opening match of the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 in Vadodara on Wednesday. It was his maiden First-Class double ton. Notably, it was his maiden First-Class match following his comeback from suspension owing to a dope violation. Here's more.
Shaw played a stellar knock
It was a stellar knock from Shaw as he went on to score a 179-ball 202. His knock included 19 fours and seven sixes. He was dismissed by Bhargav Bhatt. Meanwhile, he had scored his ton off just 84 deliveries. Prior to the double hundred, he had scored a 62-ball 66 in the first innings.
Where does the match stand so far?
Electing to bat first, Mumbai were bundled out for 431, courtesy SZ Mulani's 89, while Shaw, along with two other batsmen, contributed decently. As for Baroda, they were bowled out for 307, with Kedar Devdhar scoring an unbeaten 160. In the second innings, Mumbai declared on 409/4, while Suryakumar Yadav, too, scored a century. As of now, Baroda trail by 500-plus runs.
Shaw had impressed in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy following comeback
Following his comeback, Shaw had fared well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In a match against Assam, he had registered a brisk 63 off 39 balls to help Mumbai post a mammoth 206/5 at the Wankhede Stadium. Shaw slammed seven fours and two sixes at a strike-rate of 161.53, while he was also involved in a 138-run stand for the first wicket.
Shaw was suspended for consuming banned substance
Earlier, according to a statement by the BCCI, Shaw had "inadvertently ingested a prohibited substance, which can be commonly found in cough syrups". He tested positive for Terbutaline. As a result, he was handed a backdated suspension, which got over on November 15.
