Smith suspended for one-match, in danger of losing RR's captaincy
Australian skipper, Steven Smith has been fined 100% of his fee and suspended for one match by the ICC, with regard to his confession about the ball tampering scandal. Earlier today, he had stepped down as the captain of the national team. However, he might soon suffer another setback. Royals are pondering to drop Smith from the captaincy role for IPL 2018.
Smith not in a promising situation
Several former and current cricketers have condemned Steve Smith. RR are making a comeback after 2 years and don't want to tarnish their image. If reports are to be believed, Rajasthan could make an official statement soon about their decision to drop Smith from the leadership role. Smith was retained for a whopping sum of Rs. 12 crore by the Royals.
Rahane the new captain for RR?
If Smith faces the axe, then the best bet, the franchise has, is to name Ajinkya Rahane as the skipper of the side. Rahane has been a prolific run-scorer and has plenty of experience in IPL. He is also vice-captain of Indian Test team.
Will SRH do the same for Warner?
Along with Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner also stepped down from vice-captaincy after discussions with Cricket Australia. Smith had admitted that the idea of ball tampering was discussed by the team's leadership. This also brings Warner in the limelight. The SRH skipper also faces the danger of being stripped of his role. He was retained by Hyderabad for Rs. 12 crore.
Warner under the scanner for recent behaviour
What might prompt SRH to remove Warner as captain, is his tryst with controversies. After the infamous tunnel altercation in the first Test, Warner has now become a part of the ball-tampering scandal. These are testing times for both Warner and SRH.
