Rahane's father arrested after his car ran over a woman
India's vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane's father, Madhukar Baburao Rahane, has reportedly been taken into police custody, after he was allegedly involved in a road accident near Kolhapur in Maharashtra. A 67-year old woman, who was identified as Ashatai Kamble, was hit by his car and later succumbed to injuries in a hospital. The accident occurred on the national highway near Kagal bus station.
Holiday turns into a disaster
Rahane's family were on its way to a vacation in the Konkan region when the accident occurred. His father, mother and sister were inside the vehicle. However, it remains unclear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. Rahane's father's Hyundai i20 was speeding on National Highway No. 4, but then lost control and hit the woman.
Case registered against Rahane's father
A case has been registered with the Kohlapur police under the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act 304A [causing death by negligence], 279 [negligent conduct], 337, 338, [causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others] and 184 [driving dangerously] against his father. Further investigations are underway.
Car mows down woman
"The deceased was apparently standing in the middle of the road when Mr. Rahane, unable to swerve the car on time, rammed her," said a police officer. Rahane is currently with the Indian cricket team which is playing the 3 match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The last match of the series will be held in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
