Injury woes continue to haunt Rafael Nadal
Tennis ace and World number two Rafael Nadal is facing another injury scare, which has forced him to withdraw from the upcoming Mexican Open. The injury is a recurrence of what forced him retire from the Australian Open, earlier this year. The 16-time Grand Slam champion retired in the 5th set of the quarter-final of the Australian Open.
Nadal ruled out of Mexican Open
"My goal and hope was to play in this tournament. Unfortunately, in my last training session yesterday, I felt a sharp pain in my leg again." the 31-year-old was said about his injury.
Nadal to miss out on top world ranking
Missing the Mexican Open due to his recurring hip injury means that Nadal will miss out on the chance to claim the number one ranking from Roger Federer. Nadal was being considered favourite to win the tournament. Doctors have warned the 31-year-old not to participate in the Mexican Open as it could aggravate his injury.
Mexican Open will see big names
Some of biggest names are set to compete at the Mexican Open with the likes of Juan Martin del Potro, Marin Cilic, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Jack Sock, Kevin Anderson, and Sam Querrey gunning for the tile in the men's singles. Sloane Stephens, Kristina Mladenovic, Daria Gavrilova, and Irina-Camelia Begu are the big names in women's section.
