Success is not about winning French Open: Rafael Nadal's uncle
Tennis is considered one of the most challenging sports, especially given the number of tournaments a player participates in a calendar year. Keeping aside the ATP Tours, the four Grand Slams add more fatigue to a player's body. However, winning one or two Grand Slams does not count as success for a tennis pro, feels Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni. Here is what he said.
Success is defined by what one actually does
Toni believes that success in tennis is not just defined by winning the French or US Open, or any Grand Slam. However, success also depends on what the opponents do. Toni believes that success comes when one keeps improving as a player consistently, and not by the rankings, as even a 100th ranked player in the world can win a major tournament some day.
Success is being satisfied with what one is doing
Toni further added, "You will have it being Zara CEO and another one running a little company. The success is the calmness of knowing that you did things the way you had to. The success is to be satisfied with what you are doing."
Toni hails Nadal, Federer and Djokovic as fighters
Toni further criticized the young players for showing less commitment, despite playing good tennis. Nonetheless, he was all praise for Nadal and other legends like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. He hailed them as true fighters as they never lost without giving a fight. He urged the young generation to put little more effort and show the determination to achieve something.
Toni urges to properly educate and guide future tennis kids
Toni believes that young tennis kids are being protected too much. This could be the reason they are not making much effort to fight and seek what is best. Toni has also warned that in doing so, the future generation could be playing below-par tennis. Thus, he has urged that the young tennis kids should be properly educated regarding the goals they set.
