Rachin Ravindra 'grateful' after smashing Champions Trophy century on comeback
What's the story
New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra has made a stunning return from injury, scoring a match-winning century against Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy on February 24.
The innings not only marked his fourth ODI century but also ensured New Zealand's spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.
The feat is especially impressive considering Ravindra had just recovered from a facial injury, which he sustained during a Tri-Series game against Pakistan earlier this month.
Gratitude expressed
Ravindra credits support system for successful comeback
After his phenomenal performance in Rawalpindi, Ravindra thanked New Zealand's team support staff, including coaches and doctors. He also thanked his family for their constant support during his recovery.
"I'm very grateful to have a great support crew around me in terms of Black Caps set up," he said. "I've been showered with so much care and love...I'm very grateful to everyone who's reached out and given their support."
Match recap
Ravindra's century steers NZ to victory against Bangladesh
Despite a shaky start with Will Young and Kane Williamson dismissed early, New Zealand managed to regain control, courtesy Ravindra's partnership with Devon Conway.
After Conway's departure, Ravindra teamed up with Tom Latham for a game-changing 129-run partnership.
Ravindra reached his half-century off 50 balls and accelerated to his century in 95 deliveries.
His final score of 112 runs from 105 balls helped NZ comfortably accomplish the 237-run target in Rawalpindi.
Record broken
Ravindra surpasses Astle's record, NZ confirms semi-final spot
Ravindra's ton also helped him break Nathan Astle's record for most centuries (4) by a New Zealand batter in ICC ODI events.
With this win, New Zealand have sealed their semi-final berth in the Champions Trophy 2025.
The win also confirmed India's semi-final berth while knocking hosts Pakistan out of the tournament.
The two winning teams will now face off on March 2 to decide Group A's table-topper.
