Virender Sehwag names Ravichandran Ashwin Kings XI Punjab's new captain

Kings XI Punjab are showing some intent before the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. They were aggressive during the auctions and now they have made their intentions clear that they are here to win by naming Ravichandran Ashwin as the captain of the franchise. Virender Sehwag made this announcement in a live session on Facebook.

Surprisingly, R Ashwin has now become the 10th cricketer to lead the Preity Zinta owned franchise. Punjab snatched away Ashwin from Chennai Super Kings for a massive sum of Rs. 7.6 crore.

The Kings XI have built a decent squad for the IPL 11. The Punjab team includes Universe Boss Chris Gayle, who was bought for Rs. 2 crore, and KL Rahul who fetched a massive bid of Rs. 11 cr. These two are likely to open the innings for them. Veteran India star, Yuvraj Singh is also on their ranks.

Ashwin had a successful IPL stint with CSK, before moving to Pune. In 111 matches, Ashwin has bagged 100 wickets at an average of 24.98 and an economy of 6.54. Ashwin's promotion as the skipper might come as a surprise given his lack of experience in leading a team. Moreover, in the past 12 months, he has also got sidelined from India's T20 squad.
