Quinton de Kock surpasses 9,500 runs in T20 cricket: Stats
Lucknow Super Giants opener Quinton de Kock has completed 9,500 runs in the 20-over format. He reached the milestone with his sixth run in Match 26 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Delhi Capitals. The southpaw became just the third South African international to reach this milestone. De Kock scored 19 from 13 balls versus DC before Khaleel Ahmed dismissed him.
Why does this story matter?
De Kock has been a consistent run-scorer in the 20-over format, having made his debut in 2011. The opener can maximize the utilization of powerplay overs and his ability to play big knocks makes him an even greater asset. His international and IPL records are not ordinary either. Not to forget, the wicket-keeper has done a fine job with the gloves as well.
Third SA batter to get this feat
De Kock touched the 9,500-run mark in 332 T20 games (9,513). David Miller (10,143) and Faf du Plessis (9,857) are the only South African batters with more T20 runs than De Kock. As per ESPNcricinfo, the LSG opener averages 32.13 in the format while his strike rate is 137.88. The tally includes 60 fifties and six tons with his highest score being 140*.
Over 3,000 runs in the IPL
De Kock, who is playing his 101st IPL match, owns 3,071 runs at 32.32. His strike rate reads 134.57. The tally includes 22 fifties besides a couple of tons. Over 800 of his runs (815) have come for the Super Giants at 35.43. Against DC, he has scored 362 runs at 30.16 (SR: 139.23).
Here are his T20I numbers
Last year, de Kock smoked his maiden T20I hundred, a 44-ball 100 versus West Indies. De Kock owns 2,277 runs in 80 T20Is at 32.69. In addition to this ton, he owns 14 fifties. While no other SA batter has more runs in the format, Miller trails him in this regard with 2,268 runs.
