Quinton de Kock smashes his third ton of WC 2023
South African batter Quinton de Kock slammed his 20th ODI century in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup encounter against Bangladesh. The Proteas opener continues his splendid run, having hammered his third ton in the ongoing tournament. De Kock has become the first SA player with over two tons in a WC edition. He shared a century stand with skipper Aiden Markram.
De Kock enters record books
As mentioned, de Kock is now the only Proteas batter with more than two centuries in a World Cup edition. The star batter smacked back-to-back centuries in South Africa's opening two encounters (100 against Sri Lanka in Delhi and 109 against Australia in Lucknow). Former SA batter AB de Villiers smashed two centuries in the 2011 edition.
Second-most WC tons for SA
De Kock now has the second-most centuries for South Africa in ODI World Cups. He broke a tie with Herschelle Gibbs (2), Hashim Amla (2), and Faf du Plessis. Only de Villiers (4) is ahead of de Kock.
De Kock smashes his 20th ODI ton
This was de Kock's 20th century in ODI cricket. He is only the fourth South African to have slammed 20 or more tons in the format. De Kock is behind Amla (27), de Villiers (25), and Gibbs (21) in this regard. De Kock, playing his 150th ODI, also has 30 half-centuries in the format.
Five tons in India; 6,500 ODI runs
It is worth noting that de Kock has converted each of his five 50+ scores in India into centuries. The Proteas opener owns six ODI tons against the Men in Blue. Meanwhile, de Kock touched the 6,500-run mark in ODI cricket during the match. He is only the seventh batter to have slammed over 6,500 ODI runs for South Africa.
De Kock completes 1,000 runs at neutral venues
De Kock has become the 12th SA batter to complete 1,000 ODI runs at neutral venues. He surpassed Lance Klusener (982) and JP Duminy (983). Only Jacques Kallis (2,681), Gary Kirsten (2,384), Gibbs (1,974), de Villiers (1,913), Hansie Cronje (1,623), Daryll Cullinan (1,543), Amla (1,524), du Plessis (1,518) Jonty Rhodes (1,498), Graeme Smith ( 1,316), and Mark Boucher (1,204) are ahead.
