Nick Kyrgios fined for his controversial behavior: Details here
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been fined a total amount of £15,700 for his controversial behavior in the matches of the ATP Queen's Championship. In the first round match against Roberto Carballes Baena, he had accused a linesman of 'match-rigging'. Notably, Kyrgios won the match 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. And in the second match, he threw away his racquet. Here's more about it.
Kyrgios lost his cool on two occasions
If accusing a linesman of match-rigging was not enough in the opening game, Kyrgios went on to make fun of chair umpire Fergus Murphy's hat. He also claimed to have lost interest in the match, while he peeked over the fence to watch another game. He even confronted Felix Auger-Aliassime after the teenager broke him, as he sent his racquet flying.
ATP supervisor fines Kyrgios
Meanwhile, an ATP supervisor ruled that Kyrgios should be fined for two counts of code violation. A fine was imposed for unsportsmanlike behavior in the opening match, followed by another one for his ill behavior in the following game against Auger-Aliassime. Kyrgios also lost his cool during the press conference, blaming ATP of double standards, for not penalizing match officials over wrong calls.
Kyrgios was earlier disqualified from Rome Open
Kyrgios has a long history of bizarre on-court behavior. His previous instance was back in last month during the Rome Open, where he was disqualified for inappropriate conduct. He had abused officials, while he threw a chair onto the court.
Kyrgios should be careful before things get serious
Kyrgios is famous for his ill behavior and foul words against other top players. It is such an attitude that fans don't respect him, as they make fun of him during matches, which in return freaks him out further. The author believes he should keep his emotions in check. If this continues, he could face harsher punishments in the future.
