Teenager Sidak emulates Kumble, picks 10 wickets in one innings
Till date, only a handful of bowlers in cricket have managed to pick 10 wickets in an innings. And now Puducherry's teenage spinner Sidak Singh entered the record books after picking 10/31 against Manipur in the CK Nayudu Trophy. He joins an elite list of cricketers, which also includes former Indian spinner Anil Kumble. Here is more on the same.
Sidak achieves the unachievable
Sidak bowled an excellent spell of 17.5-7-31-10 to topple Manipur. The side could only manage a paltry score of 71. The left-arm spinner achieved this wonderful feat on the opening day of the match. With this effort, Sidak will hope to break into the senior team, this season itself. Earlier, the player had plied his trade for Mumbai.
Sidak made his Mumbai debut 3 years ago
Sidak had made his debut for Mumbai, three years ago, at the age of 15. The spinner became the second youngest cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to represent the senior side of Mumbai. However, he missed many opportunities due to his action. He switched to Puducherry and things are going well. This might be the breakout moment for the teenager.
Sidak joins an elite list
Sidak is not the first bowler to pick 10 wickets in an innings in the CK Nayudu trophy. Railways pacer Karan Thakur had notched the same in 2013. Meanwhile, in international cricket, Kumble and Jim Laker are the only bowlers to achieve this record. Kumble had claimed ten wickets in an innings against Pakistan in 1999, whereas Laker did it against Australia in 1958.
