#GamingBytes: PUBG PS4, winter map and other things to know
PUBG or PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is finally headed to PlayStation 4 after much rumours had circulated. The tactically accurate Battle Royale arrives on December 7 to the Sony consoles. The official announcement was made by PUBG Corp. on November 14 and with the game's arrival only a week away, here are five things you should know about PUBG for PS4 including the winter map.
Winter is finally here for PUBG
The most important announcement came when the developers announced the arrival of the new Event Pass which was coinciding with the arrival of PUBG on PS4. They referred to it as the Vikendi Event Pass, which leads us to believe that the snow map will arrive with this pass. Notably, the map's arrival has been long teased with Season 4 introducing winter-themed skins in-game.
Why is the Vikendi Pass so important?
Gamers might wonder how we understood the winter map would come, from the announcement about the Vikendi Event Pass. For those unaware, the snow map had several leaked names including Vikendi. Notably, the original leaked name was Dihor Otok, which is the name we used in our reports. However, by linking the map's name to the Event Pass, the developers confirmed it for us.
Other maps and features for PS4
Apart from the almost official confirmation of the snow map, PUBG PS4 will start with three maps, Sanhok, Miramar and Erangel, which are available on the other platforms. More importantly, the game will have the same features as other platforms at the time of launch. These include custom matches, event mode, achievements and the ranked system. Notably, PS4 players will get exclusive in-game skins.
The different PS4 game versions and features
Apart from the retail version for PS4, PUBG will have three digital editions. Both the retail and standard Looter's Digital Edition cost around Rs. 2,096. The Survivor's Digital Edition costs Rs. 3,493, including the Vikendi Event Pass, 20,000 BP and 2,300 G-Coins apart from the base game. The Champion's Digital Edition priced at Rs. 4,192 comes with the same except offering 6,000 G-Coins, instead.
A little bit of bad news for PS4 players
We had speculated the cross-play option might be opened for PS4 since they were trying it out for Fortnite. While it would have been exciting to team up and fight opponents in PUBG across platforms, PS4 is not getting this feature upon release.
