#GamingBytes: PUBG all set to remake the classic map Erangel
As per reports, PUBG developers have been working on revamping Erangel since March. Visual update for it has been finished and the new map will soon go on test servers for players to experience. The game's fourth season could also release this month and will aim to improve gameplay and mechanics. Notably, this is for PUBG's PC and console versions only. Here's more.
Erangel has been due for some polishing
PUBG's competitors have worked relentlessly to increase their visual appeal. From Fortnite's map improvements to seamless movements on Apex Legends, they have constantly updated their features. PUBG too has released multiple maps over time but Erangel has largely been the same, leading to players demanding a revamp. Taking note, developers have now changed building styles, added more realistic scenery, and tweaked several other things.
Test servers open on June 8 for players
A recent video shared by Executive Producer TS Jang shows the amount of work being done on the new update. Test servers will open today for partners only and players will be able to play from June 8 to June 11, albeit only in squads. PUBG will take all feedback into consideration. Another video (embedded above) shows the upcoming changes in more detail.
Here's all that will change in the map
Apart from subtle visual improvements, a new 'ledge grab' mechanic will be added. This will help players reach high vantage points and hide from others by holding on to a ledge within reach. Armored UAZs will be replaced by a new vehicle, BRDM, which would be armored and amphibious. Gun mechanics will improve and the game will now have better survival-based rewards.
When is the new update releasing?
Official release dates haven't been announced yet but according to leaks, Season 4 could begin in a couple of weeks. Two things are clear from the reports. Firstly, the game will focus more on defensive and survival-based gameplay and secondly, Erangel will become more beautiful with minimum topographical changes. You can experience the test update by joining custom matches created by PUBG partners.
