#GamingBytes: 'PUBG Mobile' and 'Resident Evil 2' getting a crossover
PUBG Mobile has already amassed massive popularity on both Android and iOS platforms, especially in Asian markets. Developed by Tencent for PUBG Corp., the Battle Royale boasted of 10 million daily active users in the month of May. To keep the popularity going, PUBG Mobile is now going to have a crossover with Capcom's popular game Resident Evil 2. Read all about it here.
Details about the crossover
While details of the crossover are scanty now, the news was announced via a tweet from the Resident Evil account. From the trailer, it can be gleaned that a crossover is coming where PUBG Mobile will get a Resident Evil 2-themed gameplay. This could either signal a Zombie mode or allow players to access zombie outfits and skins of Resident Evil 2 characters.
The official tweet confirmed the crossover
A little about 'Resident Evil 2'
Resident Evil 2 is being remade and would be launched in 2019, as we reported. The original game came out in 1998 and the classic zombie game was played through two protagonists Leon S. Kennedy, the police officer and Claire Redfield, a college student. The gameplay is based on the two protagonists trying to escape Raccoon City which happens to be infested by zombies.
The popularity of crossovers in Battle Royale
PUBG Mobile is not the first Battle Royale to get a major crossover. Within the PUBG universe itself, PC and Xbox users witnessed a crossover with DC's Suicide Squad as players could access the skins of their favourite villains including Joker and Harley Quinn. Outside PUBG, competitor Fortnite too had a crossover with Marvel before Avengers: Infinity War, with a limited time mode.
Answering the Call of Duty
The crossover could signal a page out of the popular Zombie mode from the Call of Duty franchise. However, instead of introducing a new mode of gameplay, they could include zombies into the regular Battle Royale, like Blackout. Following the footsteps of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Battle Royale will definitely make PUBG's gameplay more interesting and getting the chicken dinner more difficult.
