    PCB to host Pakistan Super League 2020 in Pakistan

    What's the story

    With rising popularity of the Pakistan Super League, the Pakistan Cricket Board has come up with some grand plans, including changing the host country.

    Notably, till date, most of the matches have been held in UAE.

    However, the board is looking to host the next edition entirely in Pakistan.

    As per the sources, PSL 2020 would be held from February 20 to March 22.

    The story

    Competitive cricket in Pakistan has suffered following 2009 terror attack

    International cricket in Pakistan has taken a hit since 2009, following the horrific terror attack on the touring Sri Lankan team.

    The attack saw seven Lankan players getting injured, along with Assistant Coach Paul Farbrace and umpire Ahsan Raza.

    The tour was immediately abandoned, while the tournaments involving international cricketers came to a standstill in the cricket-crazy nation.

    Security

    PCB has given glimpse of improved security situation

    Notably, the security situation has certainly improved in the nation over the past four years.

    The board has also successfully hosted the PSL final of the last three seasons in Pakistan, providing the highest-level security to the players.

    Since 2015, three nations in the form of Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Windies have played in Pakistan, giving the fans a hope.

    Overseas players

    Franchises to only have players willing to play in Pakistan

    As the board prepares to host PSL 2020 in Pakistan, it has already informed the participating franchises to only pick those overseas players, who are willing to play here.

    Only players, who are comfortable playing in Pakistan, would be included in the draft for 2020 season.

    The move has been supported by Pakistan Prime Minister and cricket's patron-in-chief Imran Khan.

    Renovation

    PCB starts renovation work as well

    As part of its plans to host PSL in Pakistan, the board has already started the renovation works to develop the cricket stadiums in the nation.

    As of now, Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Multan are scheduled to host 11, nine, eight and four matches, respectively.

    The final would be held in Lahore.

    PCB to generate exorbitant revenue by hosting PSL in Pakistan

    Reliable sources have also confirmed that if the board manages to successfully host PSL 2020, it would generate an exorbitant amount of money through sponsorships. Also, owing to the local interest, more tickets would be sold, while it would also attract corporate deals.
