Coronavirus outbreak: South African players to self-isolate for 14 days
The South African contingent has been told to isolate themselves after returning midway from tour of India. Cricket South Africa's chief medical officer Dr. Shuaib Manjra revealed that the players will be put into self-quarantine for the next 14 days. While the first ODI between India and South Africa was washed out, the following two games were called-off due to coronavirus pandemic.
Players should maintain distance in order to prevent themselves
"We have recommended the players to maintain distance from others and self-isolate for a minimum of 14 days. I think that is proper guidance to protect themselves, people around them, their families and their communities," Manjra told the Indian media.
The ODI series was scrapped after Dharamsala ODI
The ODI series took a hit after the series opener in Dharamsala was abandoned due to rain. Lucknow and Kolkata had to host the second and third ODI respectively. Reportedly, the South African team was unwilling to play further in the series with rising number of positive cases in India. However, BCCI stated that the series will be rescheduled to a later date.
Manjra talked about the WHO recommendations
Manjra opened up about the measures taken to educate the Proteas players following the tour. "We have looked at the recommendations made for different countries by the World Health Organisation and other authoritative bodies," he said. He added, "We have educated them on how to monitor themselves about temperature and the other symptoms that come with COVID-19. Our experts remain available to them."
