South Africa beat Australia in third ODI: Here're records broken
All-round South Africa beat Australia in the third and final ODI to win the series 2-1. Dale Steyn bowled superbly, once again, as he hurt the Aussies with three essential wickets. Aussies needed 321 runs to win, but could only manage 280/9. Shaun Marsh scored a ton, but no other batsman could support him during the chase. Here're the records broken.
Magical duo!
Faf and Miller notch third best fourth wicket stand
Faf and Miller added 252 runs for the 4th wicket. This is the record 4th wicket partnership by South African batsmen. Their 4th wicket stand is also the third best in the world. Former Indian cricketers Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja boast of the highest stand (275*), which they notched against Zimbabwe. The second best is by Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh against England (256).
Miller seals best ODI score, Faf slams 10th hundred
Faf du Plessis, who has 4,693 runs in 124 ODIs, notched his 10th career hundred. He equaled former skipper Graeme Smith in terms of ODI centuries. On the other hand, Miller slammed his best career ODI score with a splendid 139-run knock that was laced with 13 fours and 4 sixes. This was also his fifth ODI ton.
Marsh's fighting ton goes in vain
Shaun Marsh played a fighting knock of 106, but it wasn't enough in the end. Marsh struck his sixth career ODI ton and equaled former Aussie players Andrew Symonds and Michael Bevan in this process.
6th consecutive ODI series loss for Australia
This was Australia's 6th consecutive ODI series loss. The last time they won an ODI series was in 2016-17 when they beat a visiting Pakistan 4-1. Since then, they haven't managed any silverware. This was their third ODI series loss this year. Australia also suffered their second successive ODI series loss against South Africa. SA beat them 5-0 in 2016-17.
