One of the most loved sports in the world, Cricket is followed like a religion in India. While many great cricketers have played for India, their sons have also followed their footsteps and brought glory to the nation. Let's have a look at some father-son combinations, who made sure that their cricket dynasty does not fall.
A family of cricketers
India's first centurion, Lala Amarnath and his sons Mohinder and Surinder are one of the best known examples of how cricket has evolved in a family. Lala was independent India's first captain, and was one of the finest all-rounders in Indian cricket; his younger son Mohinder was an exceptional batsman in the 1980s. Mohinder was 'Man of the series' of 1983 World Cup.
Most elegant batsmen of Indian cricket
Iftikhar Ali Khan and his son Mansoor Ali Khan, both were the captains of the Indian cricket team. Famously known as Nawab of Pataudi Senior and Junior respectively, both Iftikhar and Mansoor started playing domestic cricket in England before joining the Indian team. Pataudi Jr. is the youngest ever captain of Indian team; he was handed the captaincy at the age of 21.
Other notable father-son duos
Vijay Manjrekar and his son Sanjay were known to be few of the batsmen who could play fast bowling easily. Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj too was a former Indian cricketer, but did not find much success. He, however, took it on himself to train Yuvraj. Vinoo and Ashok Mankad were an important part of the Indian cricket team during their respective careers.
The future prodigy in Indian cricket?
Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun has grabbed attention of many former cricketers with his bowling. He was a net bowler for the Indian men's and women's cricket teams during their respective tournaments in England. The 18-year old left arm pace bowler represents Mumbai's junior team in domestic cricket and was also a net bowler for the English team during their test series with South Africa.
Glenn McGrath keen on watching Arjun bowl
Former Australian legendary bowler Glenn McGrath has said that he is interested in watching how Arjun bowls. He added that Arjun's height will be a great help for the teenager. He also said if Arjun shares the same passion and love for cricket as Sachin does, he would be a winner and would fulfill his father's dream of being a fast bowler.
