Prithvi Shaw hammers successive half-centuries in 2024 One-Day Cup: Stats
Star Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has been brilliant for Northamptonshire in the ongoing 2024 One-Day Cup. Albeit in a losing cause, he scored a fiery 71-ball 97 in his last outing against Durham on August 2 at Chester-le-Street. He smoked 16 fours and a solitary maximum as this was his second successive half-century this season. Here are further details.
Shaw dominated the Durham bowlers
Batting first, Northamptonshire were off to a fiery start as Shaw maximized the powerplay overs. His brilliance meant the team's 50 was up in the sixth over. He dominated a 53-run stand with fellow opener Ricardo Vasconcelos (9) before adding 95 runs with George Bartlett (34) for the second wicket. The Indian sensation missed out on a ton as Scott Borthwick trapped him.
Second successive fifty this season
As mentioned, the 97 against Durham was Shaw's second fifty on the trot as he made a 58-ball 76 in his preceding outing against Middlesex. His other two scores this season read 9 and 40. As per ESPNcricinfo, he has raced to 222 runs across four matches at a brilliant strike rate of 129.06. Shaw is the third-leading run-getter at the time of writing.
Shaw's brilliance in One-Day Cup 2023
Shaw was also brilliant in the 2023 One-Day Cup before a knee injury cut short his campaign. After recording scores of 34 and 26 in his first two outings, he smacked a record-breaking 244 against Somerset in Northampton. This remains the second-highest individual List A score in England. Shaw followed it up with an unbeaten 125 against Durham in Chester-le-Street.
