Youngster Prithvi Shaw might get an ODI call-up soon
Prithvi Shaw captured the imagination of the Indian cricket fans after his sensational display of batting in both the Test matches against West Indies. Now it is being speculated that to keep important players fresh for the World Cup, there will be rotations in the ODI squad. And, this might see Shaw being picked up for the last three ODIs against WI. Details follow.
Shaw might be used as the third opener in ODIs
In the recently concluded series, Shaw scored 134, 70, and 33* in three innings. With Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan as permanent openers, Shaw might be used as the third option. He scored his 50 in the first match off 56 balls, and can become a valuable addition to the ODI squad. Both his attacking mentality and versatility regarding shot selection are impressive.
A review meeting decided to shuffle the squad
Indian skipper Virat Kohli, coach Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane met with the selection committee where it was decided that, to keep the key players fresh for the World Cup next year, the squad will be rotated for the upcoming tours.
The records Shaw achieved in his debut Test
Shaw's 50 off 56 balls on his way to the century in the first match was the fourth fastest fifty by an Indian in his debut Test. Shaw is also the youngest Indian to score 50+ runs on Test debut, being 18 years and 329 days old. Shaw became the 106th cricketer to score a century on his Test debut.
Upcoming series for the Indian cricket team
After the West Indies series, India will tour Australia (three T20Is, four Tests, and three ODIs) and New Zealand (five ODIs and two T20Is), and then will again host Australia at home. Shaw might find himself in the squad for these series as well.
