Decoding best bowling figures versus South Africa in T20 WCs
Team South Africa will look to end its drought for an ICC Trophy in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by West Indies and USA. The Proteas team will kick-start its campaign on June 3 against Sri Lanka. Aiden Markram is at the helm of affairs. Meanwhile, here we decode the best bowling figures against SA in the tournament's past editions.
Brandon Glover - 3/9 in 2022
Riding on Brandon Glover's brilliance, Netherlands pulled off a shocking upset and thrashed the Proteas side by 13 runs in the 2022 T20 WC match in Adelaide. SA's chase of 159 was largely dented by Glover, who dismissed the likes of Rilee Rossouw, David Miller, and Wayne Parnell. The right-arm pacer claimed figures worth 3/9 in two overs as SA were restricted to 145/8.
Saeed Ajmal - 4/26 in 2010
Former Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal spun his magic against SA in the 2010 WC game in Gros Islet. Chasing a paltry-looking 149, SA were dented in the middle overs as Ajmal claimed key wickets of Jacques Kallis (22), AB de Villiers (53), Mark Boucher (12), and Johan Botha (19). The Pakistan star finished with 4/26 as SA were restricted to 137/7.
RP Singh - 4/13 in 2007
Former Indian pacer RP Singh was on fire in a must-win encounter against SA in the inaugural T20 WC (2007). The left-arm speedster dismissed both openers, Herschelle Gibbs and Graeme Smith, cheaply before getting rid of all-rounders Shaun Pollock and Albie Morkel. India managed to defend 153 by stopping South Africa's innings to 116/9. The left-arm pacer took 4/13 in four overs.
Ahsan Malik - 5/19 in 2014
In Ahsan Malik, we have another Netherlands star on this list. It was a 2014 T20 WC game in Chattogram and Ahsan made the ball talk. The pacer dismissed Hashim Amla, Albie, Miller, Dale Steyn, and Beuran Hendricks to finish with 5/19 in four overs. His efforts, however, went in vain as SA eventually won by six runs after posting 145/9.
