IPL: Decoding best bowling figures for KKR versus MI
Mitchell Starc was instrumental to Kolkata Knight Riders' 24-run win against Mumbai Indians in Match 51 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The left-arm pacer bowled a sensational spell as MI perished for 145 in a chase of 170. Starc clocked figures worth 4/33 in 3.5 overs, his second-best IPL figures. Let's decode the best bowling performances by KKR bowlers against MI.
Starc - 4/33 in 2024
Starc, who is the IPL's costliest-ever signing, became the third KKR bowler to claim four wickets or more in a game versus MI. The Australian opened his account by cleaning up Ishan Kishan, who tried to go for a big heave, in the second over. Tim David, Piyush Chawla, and Gerald Coetzee became his victims in the penultimate over as KKR crossed the line.
Sunil Narine - 4/20, 2014
It was the opener of IPL 2014 and Sunil Narine was at his best in Abu Dhabi. Chasing 164, MI were off to a poor start with Narine dismissing Michael Hussey (3) cheaply. The mystery spinner sent back the well-set Ambati Rayudu (48) before getting the better of Corey Anderson and Harbhajan Singh. Narine's 4/20 in four overs powered KKR to a 41-run win.
Narine - 4/15, 2012
Narine features twice on this list for claiming 4/15 in just 3.1 overs versus MI in the 2012 league-stage game. Chasing a paltry 141 at the Wankhede Stadium, MI never got going as Narine claimed key wickets of Sachin Tendulkar (27), Rohit Sharma (12), and Harbhajan. He dismissed RP Singh in the final over as MI were folded for just 108.
Andre Russell - 5/15, 2021
Andre Russell claimed a historic fifer versus MI in the 2021 season opener in Chennai. He was sensational in the death overs as he claimed the quickest fifer in IPL history, off just 12 balls. Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Marco Jansen, Rahul Chahar, and Jasprit Bumrah were his victims as he finished with 5/12 in just two overs. KKR, however, lost by 10 runs.
