Premier League: Chelsea look to push for fourth spot
2016-17 Premier League champions Chelsea take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday in the final match of an action-packed day. The Blues have won their previous three matches across all competitions and this will give them the push to go all out and eye fourth place. Swansea, at 17th stay, four points above relegation zone. Here is our pre-match report.
Team selection and updates
Portugal and Bayern Munich on-loan player Renato Sanches could be involved for Swansea after recovering from a hamstring problem. But Luciano Narsingh is set to miss out due to an ankle issue. For Chelsea, Marcos Alonso will be completing his three-match ban on Saturday. They will be without injured defender David Luiz. Midfielder Danny Drinkwater may get some game time.
Chelsea out to cause problems for Swansea
Antonio Conte's side showed character and persona to beat Burnley in the previous EPL match and another away win is what the manager will demand. The ploy of Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata upfront is new and fresh. Swansea were thrashed by champions Manchester City 5-0 and they have vulnerable defense. The likes of Eden Hazard and Willian could fancy this.
What have the managers said?
Swansea manager Carlos Carvahal has cited that the tie is once again a 'David vs Goliath' battle. But he is sure the team will give a strong performance in front of home crowd. Conte stated that victory won't be easy but they need three points.
Stat attack- Swansea vs Chelsea
Swansea are winless in their last six games across all competitions. In 13 attempts, Swansea have beaten Chelsea only once back in 2016. The hosts are on a five-match unbeaten run at home. Chelsea are looking for a third straight successive away victory in EPL. Giroud's six goals this season has all been from the substitute bench which is a record.
Player focus Swansea vs Chelsea
Eden Hazard will be the best bet for the Blues in providing the dimension and pace. His link-up with the forwards will be key. For Swansea, Jordan Ayew could cause trouble for the Chelsea defense. He has scored three goals in last three home matches.
