Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand feels that the Premier League 2019-20 season should be called off amid the coronavirus pandemic. The deadly virus has claimed more than 18,000 lives so far. All sport has been impacted which has led to postponement or cancellation. Ferdinand wants the season to be null and void. Uncertainty regarding the Premier League
The EPL 2019-20 season was earlier postponed until April 3. However, the suspension was extended. The statement issued by the Football Association (FA) read: "We have collectively agreed that the professional game in England will be further postponed until no earlier than April 30." With the Euro 2020 getting postponed until 2021, the FA is aiming to wrap up the season by June 30.
What are the options ahead for the FA?
If the virus continues to stay at its peak, then the major focus for everyone will be to keep everything else in the backdrop. With the Euro getting postponed, there will be an added time now for leagues to finish. If the situation improves, then things can be played behind closed doors. Or else, end the season as it is.
Liverpool on top of the Premier League table
Liverpool were leading the show when the EPL got postponed. The Reds have a 25-point lead over second-placed Manchester City. After losing just one game in the entire campaign. Liverpool collected 82 points from 29 matches. However, Rio, said he wants the League to be called off but that had nothing to do with Liverpool leading the points table.

"I just think the Premier League should be void. Void it," Ferdinand was quoted as saying by ESPN. "I know there's going to be a lot of Liverpool fans going: 'oh, Rio, just because you used to play for Man United."
Are the players not part of society, questions Rio
There were talks of the league being held behind closed doors. However, Ferdinand brushed the option aside and highlighted the safety of players. "I just don't see a way that can be done where health isn't compromised. Simple as that. All this behind closed doors business -- you're still going to have players there, are the players not part of society?"
