Alan Shearer registered the highest number of goals
Blackburn Rovers striker Alan Shearer registered the highest number of goals that season. The Englishman registered a staggering 34 goals in the campaign and equaled Andy Cole's tally from 1993-94. The next highest goal-scorer was Liverpool's Robbie Fowler (25). Notably, these were the only two players to register 25 or more plus goals in the season. Shearer also registered the most hat-tricks that season (3). He achieved the same against QPR, West Ham and Ipswich. Southampton's Matt le Tissier accounted for the most assists (15). Blackburn qualified for the Champions League first round after finishing first. Man United and Nottingham Forest took the second and third places respectively. These two clubs alongside Liverpool and Leeds United qualified for the UEFA Cup first round. Meanwhile, four teams were relegated that season.
