    Premier League flashback: Statistical analysis of the 1992-93 season

    What's the story

    England's top flight football was named as the FA Premier League in 1992-93.

    It was a 22-team affair with the season starting on August 15.

    Manchester United won the inaugural Premier League title. It was also their maiden league honor after 26 years.

    We take you back memory lane and look at the statistical analysis of that season.

    Champions

    United lifted the trophy with 84 points collected

    United won the trophy after collecting 84 points from 42 matches.

    They went on to concede the least goals that season (31).

    Alex Ferguson's side also accounted for the best goal difference (+36).

    They also scored the second-highest goals that season (67) and were one short of fourth-placed Blackburn Rovers (68).

    The Red Devils registered 24 wins, 12 draws and six losses.

    Sheringham

    Teddy Sheringham was the highest goal-scorer

    Teddy Sheringham scored the highest number of goals that season.

    The Englishman scored one for Nottingham Forest, before making a move to Tottenham.

    He went on to score a staggering 21 goals for the London club.

    The next highest goal-scorer was Queen Park Rangers' Les Ferdinand (20).

    Notably, these were the only two players to register 20 or more goals.

    Stats

    Notable individual stats of the 1992-93 season

    Manchester United's Eric Cantona was superb that season. He registered 15 goals and 16 assists.

    His number of assists were the highest that term.

    Blackburn Rovers goal-keeper Bobby Mimms amassed the most clean sheets (19). He was one ahead of United's Peter Schmeichel (18).

    Les Ferdinand registered the most hat-tricks in the 1992-93 season (2).

    EPL 1992-93: A look at the top and relegated teams

    United qualified for the Champions League first round after finishing first.

    Aston Villa and Norwich City took the second and third places respectively.

    The two clubs qualified for the UEFA Cup first round.

    Meanwhile, the likes of Crystal Palace, Middlesborough and Nottingham Forest were relegated to the Football League First Division.
